“제6회 목회자 제자훈련 세미나에 참석한 신철웅 목사님의 간증”

분립개척을 시작하고 성도들의 요청으로 나름대로 제자훈련을 시작했습니다. 제 의지 보다는 성도들의 필요와 요청에 의해서 시작을 한 것입니다. 제자훈련을 하면서 이것이 잘하고 있는 것인지, 잘못하고 있는 것인지.. 잘하고 있다면 혹시 보충할 부분은 없는지 늘 고민했습니다. 그래서 이번 목회자 멘토링 세미나에 신청하게 되었고 비록 뉴저지에서 왔다 갔다 하느라 많이 피곤했지만 그 보다 비교할 수 없는 더 큰 유익과 은혜를 받게 되었습니다.

첫 번째, 저에게 도전이 되었던 것은 이종식 목사님의 제자훈련 목회에 대해서 들으면서 그 사역에 전심전력하는 모습을 뵙는 것이었습니다. 저도 제자반 3클래스를 하면서 나름대로 열정을 냈지만 제자훈련을 단순히 성경공부가 아니라 성도들의 삶과 필요에 민감하게 반응하면서 전인격적으로 훈련하는 모습에 감동을 받았습니다. 화요일 저녁시간에 사모님의 옆자리에 앉아서 더 자세한 내용들을 들었는데 때로는 밤에 2-3시간 주무시면서 목회와 제자훈련을 하셨다는 이야기를 듣고 생명걸고 하시는구나 하는 것을 느꼈습니다.

두 번째는 제자훈련을 위해서 더 많은 준비가 필요하다는 생각입니다. 제자훈련 교제를 살펴보다 보니 많은 조직신학적인 부분이 있는데 그런 부분을 간략하지만 정확하게 정리해 주는 것이 중요하겠다는 생각이 들었습니다. 뿐만 아니라 성도들의 궁금증이나 질문에 대해서 반응하기 위해서 많은 상황을 고려한 답변을 준비하고 계신다는 것이었습니다.

세 번째는 이 제자반을 참으로 즐겁게 하신다는 것입니다. 강의를 하시면서 즐거워하시는 모습, 순박한 웃는 모습을 많이 보았는데, 성도들에게 제자반을 할 때에는 얼마나 즐겁게, 얼마나 함께 울고 웃으시면서 하실까 충분히 상상이 가능했습니다. 한, 두 시간 클래스를 하고 끝나는 것이 아니라 성도들에게 최대한 많은 것을, 유익한 것을 주시고자 하는 모습에 많은 감동과 도전을 받았습니다.

다시 한번 이번 목회자 제자훈련세미나를 열어주신 베이사이드장로교회와 이종식 목사님 그리고 모든 스텝분들에게 감사한 마음을 전하고 싶습니다.

Testimony of a pastor after attending the New York Light 6th Pastoral Discipleship Training Seminar:

After planting my church, I started discipleship training at the request of my congregation. As I led the discipleship training course, I constantly wondered whether I was doing a good job. And I wanted to know if there were areas I needed to improve. That's why I attended the Pastoral Discipleship Training Seminar. Although I was very tired because I had to travel back and forth from New Jersey, I received boundless grace and blessings through the seminar.

Pastor Lee’s dedication to the ministry of discipleship training was very inspiring to see. I also try to pour my heart into the three classes of discipleship training program at my church. But I was impressed to see that Pastor Lee’s discipleship training was not merely a Bible study course, but a holistic training that applies directly to the lives of the congregation. Even his wife attested to his devotion. She shared that Pastor Lee sometimes led discipleship training classes with only 2 to 3 hours of sleep. This made me realize that I need to prepare more for discipleship training. I noticed that the discipleship training book contains a lot of material on systematic theology. I realized that I should explain and summarize them briefly but accurately to my congregants. Furthermore, I learned that Pastor Lee prepares a lot for any possible questions that might arise during the classes.

I saw that Pastor Lee truly enjoyed leading the discipleship training seminar. As he gave the lectures, he shared joyful laughter throughout the seminar. This made me imagine how joyfully he must lead the discipleship training classes. He must laugh and cry with the congregants throughout the classes. Not only that, but I was also greatly moved by his desire to give the congregation his best.
