한국 목회자 멘토링 세미나에 참석한 군산에서 오신 임 목사님의 간증

세미나에 오기 전 저의 모습은 한마디로 불충한 종이었습니다. 2000년 5월 개척 설립하여 목회를 하면서 다수의 제자 훈련, 전도 훈련 세미나에 참석하여 습득한 것을 수차례 실시해 보았습니다. 그리고 매년 새 가족 초청 주일을 정하여 행사를 하였지만, 정착의 열매는 거의 없었습니다. 또한, 한 해를 결산해 보면 새 가족이 상당수 등록하였지만 정착하지 못하였고, 기존의 성도들도 양육이 잘 되지 못해서인지 조그만 시험이 들어도 이기지 못하고 무너져 교회를 떠나게 되었습니다. 그래서 목회에 대한 열정도 식어지고, 아무리 노력하고 힘써도 항상 제자리에 머물러 있었습니다.

개척 3년 무렵에는 출석 교인 100명 정도에서 고착되어 있었습니다. 그러나 항상 마음 한구석에는 성도들을 정착하게 할 양육을 위해 무엇을 시도해야 할지 고민하게 되었습니다. 목회에 대한 열정은 식은 지 오래되었고, 그 돌파구로 대학원에서 박사 학위를 받아 겸임 교수로 일하게 되었습니다. 그러던 중 총신 동기인 유병희 목사님을 통해 귀한 세미나가 있다는 소식을 진즉에 들었지만 반신반의하였고, 거절하였으나 세미나 2일 전에 결단하고 찾아뵙게 되었습니다.

강의를 통해 느낀 점은 제가 마음만 굳게 정하면 할 수 있겠다는 생각이 들었고, 교회도 담임 목사에 대하여 전적으로 신뢰하고 있으니 할 수 있겠다는 생각이 들었습니다. 세미나를 통해 배운 제자 사역을 통해 담임 목사가 변화되지 않고, 헌신하지 않고는 결코 전도가 될 수 없고, 양육도 어렵고, 정착도 힘들겠다는 마음을 가졌습니다. 그래서 이후에는 받은 소명에 충실하여, 목회에 목숨 걸지 아니하면 안 되겠다는 각오를 갖게 되었습니다.

기회가 주어진다면 제자 훈련 모든 과정을 강사 목사님께 배워 뭇 영혼을 살리는데 최선을 다해야 하겠다고 다짐하였습니다. 끝으로 귀한 가르침에 감사하며, 개척 26년 동안 제대로 양육하지 못하여 떠난 성도들에게 죄송한 마음을 가졌습니다. 하나님께서 맡겨주신 귀한 영혼을 이제는 잘 양육해서 정착시켜 하나님 나라를 크게 이루고 싶은 마음 간절합니다.

다시 한번 강사 목사님께 깨우쳐주심에 감사하고, 하나님께는 신실하고 충성스러운 종이 되겠다고 결단을 가져봅니다.

Testimony by Pastor Lim from Gunsan at the Pastoral Mentoring Seminar in Korea:
Before attending this seminar, I was an unfaithful servant. Since planting the church in May 2000, I have attended numerous seminars on disciple training and evangelism, and I even tried to implement what I learned. However, despite holding an annual event called "New Family Invitation Sundays," it yielded very little fruit; only a few new families settled into the church. Our reviews at the end of each year consistently showed a considerable number of new members registering, but most failed to stay. Perhaps it was because existing congregants were not properly nurtured that they often stumbled and left the church. As a result, my passion for ministry dissipated. Despite my efforts, things remained at a standstill; nothing changed after the third year when the church reached 100 congregants.

However, a part of me always agonized over how to nurture congregants so that they would stay. But because my passion for ministry had long since waned, I began working as an adjunct professor after receiving a doctorate degree. It was during this time that I heard from Pastor Yoo Byung-hee, an alumni from Chong Shin Seminary, about a pastoral mentoring seminar. I was skeptical and initially declined. However, two days before the seminar, I decided to attend.

Through the lectures, I realized that I could do it if I put my mind to it. Since the church fully supports and trusts me, I believed that I could do it. And through the disciple training ministry I learned about at the seminar, I understood that the senior pastor himself must change and demonstrate dedication. Otherwise, it would be impossible to evangelize, nurture, and help people settle into the church. Therefore, I am now more determined than ever to be faithful to my calling. And I am willing to give my all to God's ministry. If given the opportunity, I would like to learn the entire discipleship training program from Reverend Lee and dedicate myself to the work of saving souls.

I am very grateful for all that I was taught at this seminar. I apologize to all the congregants who left the church during the past 26 years; I failed to nurture them properly. It is my earnest desire to properly nurture the precious souls God has entrusted to me. From now on, I will do my best to help them settle into the church and build the Kingdom of God.

Once again, I would like to express my gratitude to Reverend Lee for giving me insights and realizations. I resolve before the Lord to serve Him as a faithful and loyal servant.
