"왜 저 입니까?"

“왜 저입니까?”

목회와 선교를 겸하여 하다 보니 시간이 항상 모자란다
목회에서 가장 바쁜 일은 일주일에 3번 할 설교를 준비하고 순모임 교재를 만들고 목자의 묵상을 쓰는 일이다.
그리고 일 년 중 두 차례의 12일 새벽 부흥회를 위하여 시간이 날 때마다 준비하지 않으면 코 앞에 닥쳤을 때 밤을 새워야 한다.
그리고 절기마다 해야 하는 설교를 염두에 두고 준비해야 한다.
그래서 목사인 나는 설교를 준비하는 일에 시간을 가장 많이 사용하게 된다.
그리고 기도 시간을 갖고 심방하며 제자 훈련을 하다 보면 일주일이 다 가고 시간이 모자란다.
그런데 그 와중에 선교를 일 년에 세 차례 가다 보니 항상 갈 때마다 모자란 마음이 든다.
스페니쉬를 공부하여 가려고 무던히도 애를 쓰지만 다른 일을 하다 보면 비행기 안에서나 스페니쉬 책을 뒤져 보기가 일쑤이다.
이번에도 역시 준비가 되지 않아 일주일 남은 이제야 스페니쉬 사전을 뒤적이고 있다.
잊어버린 단어를 기억해 내기 위함이다.
그러면서 기도 중 이런 질문을 하게 된다.
왜 하나님은 나 같은 사람을 쓰시기를 원하시는지?
스페니쉬도 잘하는 선교사들도 많고 시간도 있는 자들도 많은데 왜 모든 면에 부족한 나 같은 사람을 들어 선교하게 하시는지…
그 답은 항상 다음과 같다.
“약한 것을 들어 강하게 쓰는 나를 드러내기 위함이다”
“그래서 네 입으로 나를 자랑하기 위함이다”
나는 그 대답에 항상 눈물을 흘리며 다음과 같이 화답한다.
영광입니다!

“Why me?”

I am always short on because I concurrently lead a church and do missions work. The church ministry tasks that keep me most busy each week are preparing for three sermons, making the Bible study curriculum for small groups, and writing the weekly devotional. Also, whenever I have time, I prepare messages for the 12-day morning revival services, which the church holds twice each year. If I do not do it throughout the year but try to do it close to the dates of the revivals, I would have to stay up several nights preparing for the sermons. Not only that, I also prepare messages for holidays and special occasions that come around every year. So, as a pastor, I spend most of my time preparing messages. I also take time to pray, visit my congregants, and teach discipleship training classes. Doing all this takes up the entire week, and I do not have time to do much of anything else. However, on top of doing all this, I go on mission trips three times a year. And every time I go, I feel like it is not enough. Although I try my very best before each trip to brush up on my Spanish and build my fluency, I have no time. So, I usually end up finally skimming through my Spanish book on the plane en route. I am under-prepared this time as well. With only one week left till departure, I am now looking through the Spanish dictionary to review forgotten words. Then while praying, I suddenly thought, “Why does God want to use someone like me? There are missionaries who are fluent in Spanish and have more time to spare than I do. But why did God choose me to do missions, even though I am lacking in so many ways?” The answer is always the same. It is because God uses the weak in great ways to show His power and glory, and thereby propels me to boast the Lord. Whenever God reminds me of this, I tearfully respond, “It is my honor! I will serve You until I die!”
