“국제 제자훈련 단체 포름에 가면서 한 묵상”

작은 일 같으나 제자 훈련 단체 모임에 주 강사가 되어 일본으로 출타하게 되니 만감이 교차한다.
처음 제자 훈련을 교회에서 시작할 때 우리 교회는 너무도 열악한 상황이었다.
그때 나는 남가주에서 열리는 제자 훈련 세미나에 참석하게 되었는데 어디서 어떻게 제자 훈련을 시작하여야 할지 몰랐다.
강사인 고 옥한흠 목사님의 강의를 들으며 나도 저분처럼 할 수 있을까 생각하기도 했다.
그러나 제자 훈련은 사람이 만든 것이 아니라 예수님이 시작하신 것이요 명령이라는 것을 깨달았을 때 나의 자세는 달라졌다.
제자 훈련은 해도 되고 안 해도 되는 것이 아님을 깨달은 것이다.
그래서 나는 예수님의 명령을 따라 나의 그릇의 수치를 판단하지 않고 실행하게 되었다.
나는 최선을 다해 준비했고 연구했고 목숨을 다하여 훈련에 임했다.
눈보라 치는 날에도, 비가 많이 오는 날에도 숫자에 연연하지 않고 훈련해 나갔다.
그리고 만 30년이 지났다.
교회는 훈련받은 제자로 가득 차게 되었고 그 예수님의 제자들이 순모임을 통해 목회하는 교회가 되었다.
또한 교회는 어떤 일이든지 불협화음 없이 겁내지 않고 넉넉히 감당하게 되었다.
뉴욕의 어린이를 위하여 여름 성경학교를 열고, 온 세상에 목회자들을 초대하여 섬기고, 뉴욕의 담을 넘어 도미니카 공화국까지 가서 어린이들을 섬기며 제자를 만드는 일을 하게 되었다.
그리고
교회는 점차 온 세상에 이 시대에 가장 건강한 교회로 알려지기 시작하였다.
한국의 한 신학교에서는 이것을 인정하여 명예박사 학위를 수여하기도 했다.
그리고 이번엔 국제 제자 훈련 단체에서 주 강사로 선임되어 일본으로 향하게 되었다.
유명해지기 위하여 지금까지 일을 한 적이 없다.
나를 부르신 분의 명령을 따라 그리고 그분의 영광을 위하여 최선을 다했을 뿐이다.
하나님이 계속 나를 쓰시고 있음을 감사하며 다짐한다.
사명을 마치는 그날이 언제인지 몰라도 나에게 주신 사명을 이루기 위해 멈추지 않고 달려가겠다.
주님이 충성된 종이라고 한 말씀해 주시기를 기대하며…

“My meditation as I leave for the International Discipleship Training Forum”

It may not seem like a big deal, but I am filled with various emotions as I leave for the International Discipleship Training Forum. The church was very weak when I first started discipleship training at our church. At that time, when I attended the discipleship training seminar in Southern California, I had no idea how to start discipleship training at our church. And as I listened to the lectures of the late Reverend Oak Han Heum, I wondered if I would ever be able to do discipleship training like him. But discipleship training is not something people made. Jesus is the One who started it. And it is His command for us to do it. When I realized this truth, my outlook on discipleship training changed. Doing discipleship training is not optional. That is why I obeyed Jesus’ command and started discipleship training, despite the frail vessel that I am. I did my best to prepare for the training. I devoted my life to the training. Even in the midst of a blizzard or heavy storms, I continued to train people without concerning myself with the number of attendees. Then about 30 years passed. Our church is filled with disciples who have been trained. And because of these disciples of Christ, the church does ministry through small groups. Also, the church was able to handle any task without fear or dissonance. We opened Vacation Bible School for the children of New York; we invited pastors from all over the world to serve them; and we even crossed the border to the Dominican Republic to serve the children and train disciples there as well. Over time, the church became known all throughout the world as the healthiest church of this era. In recognition of this, a theological seminary in Korea awarded the honorary doctorate degree. And this time, I am headed to Japan because the International Discipleship Training Forum appointed me as the main speaker. I did not work hard to become famous. I simply obeyed the One who called me. And I did my best for His glory. I am grateful that God is still using me. Thus, with hopes and anticipation that He would say that I have been His faithful servant, I promise to keep on running to fulfill God’s calling until the end.
