“열매를 맺는 길”

“나는 심었고 아볼로는 물을 주었으되 오직 하나님은 자라나게 하셨나니 그런즉 심는 이나 물주는 이는 아무것도 아니로되 오직 자라나게 하시는 이는 하나님뿐이니라 심는 이와 물주는 이가 일반이나 각각 자기의 일하는 대로 자기의 상을 받으리라 우리는 하나님의 동역자들이요 너희는 하나님의 밭이요 하나님의 집이니라”(고린도전서3: 6-9)

농부는 밭에 씨를 심고 열심히 물을 준다.
신기하게도 씨는 자라 빨간색, 초록색, 노란색의 달콤한 열매를 맺는다.
땅속을 아무리 뒤져 보아도 그런 색은 없고 맛도 없는데 ...
하나님이 하시는 일이다.

하나님 나라에서도 자연에서 일어나는 일이 그대로 반복된다.
무엇이든지 열매를 기대한다면 누군가 심어야 하고 그것에 물을 주어야 한다.
사람도 마찬가지다.
그 사람에게 누군가 복음을 심어야 하고 물을 주듯 가르쳐 지키게 해야 한다.
그때 하나님은 그 사람을 신기하게 믿음으로 자라게 하신다.
인간의 심고 물 주는 노력이 필요하다.
하나님은 인간의 노력이 결코 헛되지 않게 하신다.

지난 35년 동안 교회에서, 그리고 선교지에서 제자훈련을 통해 복음을 심고 물을 주었다.
하나님이 신기하게도 각종 열매를 많이 거두게 하셨다.
앞날을 생각해 본다.
그 열매는 또 다른 열매를 맺어 온 세상을 뒤덮을 것을 상상한다.
아, 중요한 것은 오늘 무엇을 심고 그것에 물을 주고 있느냐는 것이다.

무엇이든지 열매를 바란다면 하늘의 것으로 심고 꾸준히 물을 주라.
내가 일군 밭이 열매로 뒤덮이는 것을 볼 것이다.
무능한 종의 수고에 열매를 주시는 하나님께 감사를 드린다.

The way to bear fruit

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. For we are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building.” (1 Corinthians 3:6-9)

A farmer plants seeds in the field and diligently waters them.
Mysteriously, the seeds grow and produce sweet red, green, and yellow fruits.
No matter how deep the soil is dug, the colors and flavors of fruit cannot be found there. It is the work of God.
In the Kingdom of God, this phenomenon in nature is mirrored.
To bear fruit in anything, we must plant and water it.
The same applies to people. Someone must sow the gospel in their hearts and teach them to obey, like watering a plant.
Then, God mysteriously promotes that person to grow in faith.
Our efforts in planting and watering are essential. God never allows our efforts to be in vain.

For the past 35 years, in the church and on the mission fields, I have planted the gospel and nurtured it through discipleship training. Mysteriously, God has allowed many different kinds of fruit to be harvested.
I think about the future and anticipate bearing even more fruit that will eventually cover the entire world. Thus, what matters is what I plant and water today.

If you want a harvest, plant the things of heaven and water them consistently. Then, the field you cultivate will be filled with fruit.
I give thanks to God, who has produced much fruit through the labor of an incompetent servant like me.
