“우리를 향한 하나님의 계획은 언제나 희망입니다.”

"여호와의 말씀이니라 너희를 향한 나의 생각을 내가 아나니 평안이요 재앙이 아니니라 너희에게 미래와 희망을 주는 것이니라" (예레미야 29:11)

성도들조차 힘든 일이 겹쳐오면 하나님의 뜻이 무엇인지 혼란스러워집니다.
사업도 힘든데 부부 사이에 어려움이 오거나,
자녀에게 뜻하지 않은 변고가 생기거나,
장기적인 질병으로 고통을 당할 때 자신이 저주를 받은 것처럼 느껴질 때가 있습니다.
하나님이 자기를 버리신 것 같이 느껴질 때가 있습니다.
특별히 기도를 오랫동안 했지만 그 응답이 없을 때 버려진 것 같이 느껴집니다.
다른 사람의 기도는 빨리 응답되는 것을 보며 더욱 그러한 마음을 느끼게 됩니다.

예레미야 선지자 시대에도 그렇게 생각하는 사람들이 있었습니다.
바벨론이 쳐들어와서 수많은 사람을 죽이고 포로로 끌고 가는 처지였기 때문입니다.
그때 하나님은 예레미야 선지자를 통하여 말씀하셨습니다.
"너희를 향한 나의 생각은 재앙이 아니라 미래에 희망을 주기 위함이라."
포로로 끌려가는 이스라엘 백성은 이 말을 이해하지 못했을 것입니다.
그러나 그 계획은 70년 후에 실체로 드러났습니다.
그들의 신앙을 회복하여 포로 생활에서 벗어나 유대로 돌아오게 하기 위함이었습니다.
원래 목적대로 하나님을 주권자로 온 세계에 증거하는 백성으로 살게 하고자 함이었습니다.

오늘 우리에게 이해할 수 없는 어려움이 있다면,
하나님의 생각은 재앙을 주는 것이 아니라 희망을 주는 것임을 기억해야 합니다.
그 증거는 하나님은 죄인 된 우리를 구원하기 위하여 독생자 예수님을 보내신 것입니다.
우리를 구원하기 위하여 독생자까지 보내신 분이 우리에게 재앙을 주실 리가 없습니다.
그러므로 우리에게 일어나는 모든 일은 합력하여 선을 이루게 될 것을 믿어야 할 것입니다.

“God's plan for us is rooted in hope.”

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[a] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." (Jeremiah 29:11).

Even believers can struggle to discern God's will when we’re faced with compounding hardships. Difficult business conditions, marital strife, unexpected problems involving a child, or long-term illness can lead to feeling cursed by God. Especially if our prayers have not been answered, we might feel like God has abandoned us. And it makes it worse when we see that other people’s prayers seem to be answered quickly.

The people of Jeremiah's time experienced something similar. During the Babylonian invasion, many were put to death or taken captive. It is during this time that God spoke through Jeremiah, saying, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[a] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope”.

The Israelites who were taken captive most likely did not fully understand this. But God’s plan was revealed seventy years later. His plan was to restore their faith, liberate them from captivity, and return them to Judea. As was His original plan, He wanted them to bear witness to God's sovereignty to the entire world.

When we face incomprehensible difficulties, we must remember that God's intention is to give us hope, not disaster. We can know this is true because God sacrificed His only Son, Jesus, to save us from our sins. He who sacrificed His only Son would never bring disaster upon us. Therefore, we must trust that everything that happens to us will ultimately work together for good.
