“내가 기대를 멈출 수 없는 이유”

나는 요새 본의 아니게 세계 여러 곳을 다니며 위대한 일을 하였던 사람들의 유적지를 보고 있다.
특별히 어느 곳을 가면 그곳에서 성령의 역사로 누가 어떻게 변화를 입었는가에 대해 이야기를 듣는다.

다메섹에서는 사도바울이 변화를 입었다.
욥바에서는 베드로가 이방인을 위한 계시를 받아 변화되었다.
런던에는 웨슬리가 변화를 입었던 교회가 있다.
영국의 베드포드에는 존 번연이 변화를 입은 곳이 있다.
시카고에는 디 엘 무디가 변화를 입은 거리가 있다.
그들은 모두 자기가 사는 곳에서 성령의 역사로 변화를 입었다.
그리고 그들을 통해 하나님 나라는 대단히 확장되었다.

한 사람의 변화는 대단한 일이다.
이런 이유로 나는 지금도 기대하게 된다.
그런 일이 내가 사는 뉴욕에서도 일어날 수 있다는 것이다.
특별히 제자훈련 반에서
예배 중에
기도회 중에 그런 변화가 일어나기를 기대한다.

나는 기도한다.
오 주여! 이 시대에도 사람을 변화시켜 주옵소서!
그래서 복음으로 이 타락하고 어두운 세상을 밝혀주옵소서!

“Why I Remain Expectant”

These days, I have been able to visit several historical sites of people who performed great works as I travel around the world. At each location, I learned of people who were transformed by the Holy Spirit. Damascus is where Apostle Paul experienced a profound change. Joppa is where Peter was transformed when he received a revelation about the Gentiles. In London, the church at which Wesley was transformed still stands. Bedford, England is where John Bunyan was transformed. And in Chicago, the street on which D.L. Moody was transformed exists. Each of these people was transformed by the Holy Spirit in their context. Through them, the Kingdom of God expanded significantly.

The transformation of even a single person is magnificent. Thus, I remain in constant expectation. I believe this kind of transformative work can also occur where I live, in New York. I especially believe that this will happen through our discipleship training classes, worship services, and prayer meetings. I pray, "Lord, continue to transform people today! Would You illuminate this fallen, dark world through the gospel!"
