이정훈 목사님의 (GMS 서유럽지부 선교사) 간증문”

작년에 이어 목회자 제자 훈련 세미나에 참석하게 되어 감사합니다. 작년에 9월부터 제자 훈련을 계획하고 있던 저에게 멘토링 세미나는 하나님의 준비하심이었습니다. 처음에 멘토링 세미나가 제자 훈련인 줄 몰랐습니다. 10여 년 전에 한국에서 칼 세미나를 받았고 제자 훈련 하면 옥한흠 목사님의 평신도를 깨운다가 가장 좋은 교재라고 생각했었습니다. 당연히 옥 목사님의 ‘평신도를 깨운다’로 훈련을 계획 중이었는데 경험이 없어서 걱정되었는데, 베이사이드장로교회에 와서 멘토링 세미나가 제자 훈련 세미나인 것을 알게 되고 하나님의 인도하심이라고 생각되었고 저는 매우 기뻤습니다. 작년 멘토링 덕분에 제자 훈련을 잘 시작할 수 있었습니다. 그러나 현실적으로 어려움이 많았습니다.

우리 교회는 대략 15~17명의 유학생과 교환학생들로 이루어진 한인 교회입니다. 대다수가 유학생들 그리고 교환학생들이어서 짧게는 6개월 길게는 2년 정도 체류하는 학생들이라 장기적으로 제자 훈련을 하는 것이 쉽지 않은 상황이었습니다. 그러나 최선을 다해서 제자 훈련을 했습니다. 시작이 반이라고 나름대로 성과도 있었다고 생각됩니다. 무엇보다 제가 제자 훈련을 준비하며 은혜를 많이 받고 하나님의 살아계심을 많이 경험했습니다.

이번 목회자 제자 훈련 세미나는 저에게는 매우 중요합니다. 저는 6년 전에 네덜란드로 유학을 왔습니다. 4년 전에 우리 집 다락에서 교회를 개척했습니다. 교회가 없어서 예배를 드리지 못하는 유학생들이 눈에 밟혀서 한인 교회를 개척하게 되었습니다. 그러던 중 교회를 찾은 한 인도네시아에서 온 무슬림 유학생의 회심을 통해 선교사로 사는 삶에 대한 비전을 보게 되었고 합동 측 선교부인 GMS 해외 특별과정으로 서유럽 지부 선교사가 되었습니다. 지금은 유학생들과 교환학생들에게 제자 훈련을 해서 제자가 된 그들과 함께 아시아, 중동, 아프리카에서 온 유학생들에게 복음을 전하고 그들에게 제자 훈련을 하는 계획을 하고 있습니다. 네덜란드에서 공부하고 있는 아시아, 중동 유학생들은 모두 그 나라에서 상당한 엘리트이며 사회 지도층이 될 사람들입니다. 그들에게 복음을 전하고 제자 훈련을 통해 그들을 예수 그리스도의 제자로 세우는 것은 의미 있는 일이라고 생각합니다.

제자 훈련 세미나는 저의 사역에 정말 필요한 너무나 중요한 도구입니다. 열심히 강의를 듣고 열심히 적고 내 것으로 소화하려고 하면서 제가 은혜를 많이 받았습니다. 위트 있으시고 진심에서 우러나온 내용들, 진솔하게 삶에서 베어 나오는 겸손과 재미있는 예들도 좋았지만, 저는 특히 흔들리지 않는 깊은 개혁 신학의 토대 위에서 제자 훈련을 하시는 목사님의 굳은 신학과 신앙이 멋지게 느껴졌습니다. 저는 한인 제자 훈련도 필요하지만, EM 제자 훈련에 대한 다양한 이야기들과 인력이 필요합니다. 그래서 오늘 이은혜 전도사님과 EM 사역에 관해서도 이야기를 나누었고 제자 훈련 영어 교재도 받았습니다.

저는 현재 네덜란드 OMF 아시아 파트 디렉터로 섬기고 있는 Sam Warner라는 영국 친구와 함께 유럽 복음화에 대한 플랫폼을 구상하고 있습니다. 기회가 된다면 목사님께 조언과 질의를 할 수 있는 시간을 갖기를 원합니다. 목사님의 제자 훈련에 대한 열정과 경험과 노하우는 유럽에 있는 많은 아시아, 중동, 아프리카 유학생들의 영혼을 살리는 데 큰 도움이 될 수 있다고 생각됩니다. 귀한 강의를 허락해 주시고 좋은 것을 나누어 주셔서 감사드립니다.

New York Light 6th Pastoral Discipleship Training Seminar testimony of a pastor from Zwolle Korean Church in the Netherlands (GMS Western Europe Branch Missionary):
Thank you for allowing me to attend the Pastoral Discipleship Training Seminar this year. The Mentoring Seminar last year was God’s providence for me, as I was planning to lead discipleship training since last September. Initially, I did not know that the mentoring seminar was about discipleship training. Ten years ago, I attended the Kairos Seminar in Korea, and ever since, I always thought that Rev. Ock Han-Hum’s Awakening the layperson was the best book for discipleship training. So, I was planning to use that book for my discipleship training class, but I was worried because I had no
experience. Then, when I came to the Korean Presbyterian Church of Bayside to attend the mentoring seminar, I realized that it was about discipleship training. I believe this was God’s providence. Thanks to last year’s seminar, I was able to start the discipleship training at my church. However, there were several difficulties. Our church is a Korean church that has about 15-17 international and exchange students, which is the majority of the congregants. Since their stay is short—from six months to about two years—it is not easy to conduct a long-term discipleship training program. Nevertheless, I did my best to lead the training. Since starting the training is half the battle, we were able to see some good results. Most importantly, I was greatly blessed and experienced God's presence as I prepared for discipleship training.
This year’s Pastoral Discipleship Training Seminar was very important to me. Six years ago, I moved to the Netherlands to study. Then, four years ago, I planted a church in the attic of my house. I realized the plight of the international students who had no church to attend. So, I started a Korean church. After I started the church, an Indonesian student who was a Muslim attended our church and became a Christian. This motivated me to become a missionary. Eventually, I became a missionary of the GMS overseas special program, which is a missionary board. My desire is to provide discipleship training for exchange students so that through them the gospel would be shared with those in Asia, Middle East, and Africa. The Asian and Middle Eastern international students who study in the Netherlands are mostly elites in their respective countries who usually become leaders in their societies. It would be truly meaningful to share the gospel with them and make disciples through discipleship training. This Discipleship Training Seminar has provided a crucial tool that is necessary for my ministry. I was greatly blessed as I diligently listened to the lectures, took notes, and tried to absorb the content. I appreciated Pastor Chong Shik Lee’s witty and sincere content, his genuine humility that emanates from his life, his engaging illustrations, and especially Pastor Lee’s firm theology and faith. This is what seems to anchor discipleship training to the deep foundation of Reformed theology. Just as much as discipleship training is necessary for Korean speakers, I also need discipleship training resources for English speakers. So, I spoke with Pastor Ruth Lee about that and received English discipleship training materials. I am currently planning with Sam Warner, who serves in the OMF Asian division of the Netherlands, to make a platform to do evangelism in Europe. If given the opportunity, I would like to ask Pastor Lee for more advice. I believe his passion, experience, and know-how of discipleship training can greatly help save the souls of many international students from Asia, the Middle East, and Africa in Europe.
