“제6회 목회자 제자훈련 세미나에 참석한 올랜도 주님의 교회 백주성 목사님의 간증”

제6회 목회자 제자훈련 세미나를 마치며...

우리 주님의 은혜는 항상 놀랍습니다.
조금 지칠 즈음에, Burn out의 조짐이 보일 즈음에, 주님은 제게 또 하나의 회복 싸인을 보내주셨는데, 그것이 바로 베이사이드장로교회의 목회자 제자 훈련 세미나 모임에 대한 초대의 메일이었습니다.
그리고 감사하게도, 여러 가지 여건들을 허락해 주신 하나님의 은혜로 3박 4일의 일정 중에, 3일 차를 지나가고 있습니다.

이번 세미나를 통해서 제게 너무나 감사한 것은, 제가 10여 년 이상 마음에 품어왔던 제자 훈련에 대한 생각들, 그리고 성도들 한 사람 한 사람을 “병신도” 가 아니라, 살아 있는 “평신도”로 깨워야 한다는 옥한흠 목사님의 그 spirit를 다시 한번 기억나게 해주신 것에 대한 깊은 감사를 드립니다.

특별히 강사이신 이종식 목사님이 가지신 독특한 제자훈련 마인드로, 옥한흠 목사님과는또 다른 편안함을 가지고 평신도를 깨운다 라는 교재를 풀어가시는 것에 깊은 도전을 받았습니다.

특별히 이종식 목사님의 강의는, 실제적 간증과 적용을 강조하셨는데, 그것이 아마도 베이사이드장로교회 성도들에게 더 쉽게 들렸을 것이라는, 그래서 목회자가 성도들을 섬길 때에 대한 또 하나의 방식을 얻는 시간이 되기도 했습니다.

특별히 이번 세미나 참석을 통해서 성도들이 제자 훈련의 묘미를 느끼며 감사하고 있는 것을 보고 참으로 큰 도전을 받았습니다.

저를 공항에서 라이드 해 주신 신인목 장로님 부부를 통해서, 이 두 분이 교회 생활과 신앙 생활을 참으로 행복하게 하고 계심을 들으며 참으로 감사했습니다.

이 두 분의 고백이, 본인들이 베이사이드장로교회를 만나고, 제자 훈련을 만남으로, 자신들의 삶이 바뀌었다는, 자신의 가정에 진정한 행복이 이루어졌다는 고백은 제게는 참으로 행복하게 들렸고, 제가 섬기는 성도들도 이렇게 행복하게 신앙 생활하기를 바라는 마음이 간절해졌고, 저절로 그렇게 되기를 원하는 기도가 드려졌습니다.
짧은 기간이지만,

다시 한번 제 사역의 남은 기간들을, “ 한 영혼을 그리스도의 제자로 세워가는 일 “에 대한 마음을 회복하게 해 주셔서 너무 감사하고, 결국 제가 하나님 앞에서 남을 것은 제자 훈련임을 확인하게 하는 귀한 세미나를 열어주셔서 깊은 감사를 드립니다.

베이사이드장로교회와 이종식 목사님, 그리고 모든 성도님들께 깊은 감사를 드립니다.

Testimony of a pastor from Orlando after attending the New York Light 6thPastoral Discipleship Training Seminar:

The grace of our Lord is always astounding. I was going through a burn out phase in my ministry when I received an email regarding the Korean Presbyterian Church of Bayside’s New York Light 6thPastoral Discipleship Training Seminar. And by God’s grace, I have been able to attend the seminar.

This seminar mentioned and clarified the thoughts I had for the past ten years about discipleship training. And it also reminded me once again that the heart of discipleship training is to awaken every believer to be a follower of Christ, which is what the late Pastor Oak Han Eum believed. And as we went through the same workbook during this seminar, I was especially encouraged by Pastor Chong Shik Lee who led the seminars with his unique mindset and heart for discipleship training. Pastor Lee also emphasized sharing personal testimonies in the discipleship training sessions, which must have helped his congregation better understand the content. Thus, I realized that this is a method that I should also utilize in serving the church. It was particularly amazing to see how Pastor Lee’s congregants feel about discipleship training. They seem to be truly joyful and grateful for the training. For instance, the husband and wife (elder Shin In Mok) who picked me up from the airport for the seminar shared that they are joyfully attending the church. They said they were very happy to be part of the Korean Presbyterian Church of Bayside and grateful that they go to do discipleship training. They confessed that their entire family were transformed and found true happiness. I was truly glad to hear their confession. And I deeply hope and pray for my congregants to be able to experience this kind of joy as they walk in faith.

Although the seminar was brief, I am grateful that the Lord restored my heart to continue to serve Him by making disciples of Christ one person at a time. And I am thankful for this seminar, for it reminded me that the one thing that will remain when I stand before the Lord is discipleship training. I give my greatest thanks to the Korean Presbyterian Church of Bayside, Pastor Chong Shik Lee, and all the congregants.
