“깨달음”

나이 40 정도에 선배 목사인 옥한흠 목사님에게 물었다.
나이가 들면 암기력과 배우는 속도가 느려질 것 같은데 설교를 어떻게 준비하시나요?
목사님은 답하기를 나이가 들면 사람이 지혜로워져서 설교가 더 은혜로워진다고 말씀하셨다.

그때는 그 뜻이 무엇인지 몰랐다.
그런데 내 나이가 그분의 나이만큼 되자 그 말이 느껴진다.
평소에 알던 말씀도 새롭게 보이고
말씀이 삶의 경험들과 합쳐지면서 그 뜻이구나 하고 확실히 느껴진다.

그렇다
나이가 든다는 것은 지혜로워진다는 말이다.
그러므로 그때는 손을 놓는 때가 아니라 할 일이 있다.
후세들에게 깨달은 진리를 나누는 삶이다.
참으로 다행이다.
나에게 젊은 목사님들과 깨달은 것을 나눌 수 있는 시간이 있다는 것이

한 교회에서 목회를 34년째 하다 보니 나이가 들어가는 성도들을 보고 있다
그들이 귀하게 보인다.
다 지혜로운 사람이 되어 주님의 몸 된 교회를 섬기고 있다고 생각하니 마음이 든든해진다.
그들을 통하여 젊은 성도들이 깨달음을 받아 인생을 더욱 아름답게 살아갈 것을 기대한다.

Realization
When I was around 40 years old, I asked Pastor Oak Haneum a question.
I said, “It seems like our memory and learning speed slows down as we get older. If that’s the
case, how do you prepare your sermons?”
Pastor Oak replied, “As you age, you become wiser. So, your messages become more gracious
and blessed.” At that time, I didn’t realize what he meant by that. But now that I am the same
age Pastor Oak was when he said that, I think I understand him now. I have new understanding
of the Word, especially when I put my life experiences together with the Word.
That’s right. To get older means to become wiser.
So, now is not the time to be idle. There is something I must do.
I must share the truth with the next generation.
It is such a relief that I still have the time to share what I realized with the pastors of the next
generation. Having served my church for the past 34 years, I can see the congregants growing
older too. They are truly precious. They have also become wiser with time. As I think about the
way they serve the body of Christ, the church, I feel secure and confident. I hope that through
them, the younger generation of believers would also realize the truth and lead a more
wonderful life.
