“하루하루를 은혜 속에 살고 있음을 기억하자”

권사님 한 분이 아파서 병원으로 심방을 갔다
그 권사님은 생각보다 건강한 모습으로 반갑게 맞이해 주셨다.
병의 원인이 무엇이었는지를 들으며 점차 나아지고 있음에 감사를 드렸다.
권사님은 병원이 참 깨끗하고 잘해준다는 말을 하며 감사의 말을 하였다.
그러면서 권사님은 이런 말을 하였다.
이렇게 살아도 되는 것인지 하며 매일 감사하며 산다고 하였다.
그 뜻은 이렇게 아무 문제 없이 행복하게 사는 것이 감사하다는 것이었다.
권사님은 많은 고초를 겪으며 살아왔다.
그때를 생각하며 지금의 안락함이 너무 감사한 것이었다.

병원을 나오면서 과거의 고난이 우리에게 주는 선물이 있다는 것을 생각하게 되었다.
그것은 하나님의 은혜로 살고 있다는 믿음이다.
그래서 현재의 어려움 속에서도 감사의 조건을 찾아 감사하게 된다.

나 역시 하루하루 감사하며 살고 있다.
그렇다고 어려움이 없는 것은 아니다.
당료와 심장의 이상을 느끼며 조심하며 살고 있다.
그러나 지나온 세월을 돌아보며 감사가 나올 뿐이다.
과거에 겪은 일들과 현재를 비교하면 너무나 감사할 뿐이기 때문이다.

권사님이 이런 말씀을 하셨다.
그렇게 어려울 때 정말 기도 많이 했는데 그때의 기도가 다 이루어졌다고…
나 역시 마찬가지였다.
청년의 때, 앞이 보이지 않아 울부짖으며 기도하였는데 하나님은 그 기도에 다 응답하셨다.
아니 그보다 더 많은 것을 허락하셨다.

현재 삶이 힘들어 기도하는 성도님들에게 말하고 싶다.
지금 어쩔 수 없어 하는 기도가 다 응답 되는 날을 볼 것이라고
그래서 하루하루를 감사하며 살게 될 것이라고..
그러므로 어려움을 통과하는 지금도 역시 은혜의 때라 말할 수 있다

“Let us remember that we live each day by the grace of God”

I visited a deaconess (kwon sa nim) at the hospital because she was unwell.
She greeted me warmly, looking healthier than I expected.
As she explained her illness, I was grateful to hear that she was gradually getting better.
She was thankful that the hospital was clean and kind to her.
And she said that she lives each day with gratitude, wondering if she deserves to live.
She meant she was grateful to live without any worries or concerns.
The deaconess endured many hardships in the past.
When compared to her past, she cannot help but give thanks for her present life.
As I left the hospital, I realized that our past sufferings bring us a gift—the gift of faith that we live by God’s grace. And so, we learn to find reasons to give thanks in the midst of present struggles.

I live each day giving thanks to God as well. But that does not mean that I have no difficulties. I deal with heart issues and diabetes every day.
But when I look back to my past, I am filled with only gratitude.
When I compare my past experiences with my present life, I am just so grateful.
The deaconess shared that God answered all her prayers.

It was the same for me as well.
When I cried out to the Lord in my young adult years because I could not see the light at the end of the tunnel, God answered me. But that is not all. He gave me so much more than that.

I’d like to encourage my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering.
We will see the day our desperate prayers answered, and we will be able to live each day with gratitude. Therefore, we can say that even our present suffering is a time of grace.
