“영국 런던의 한 교회에서 시무하는 전도사님의 간증”

목회자가 되기로 결심한 후에 가장 감사했던 것들은 목회자 세미나에 참석해서 실질적인 하나님의 일들을 들을 수 있었던 것들이었습니다. 이번에도 비슷한 소중한 기회라고 생각했습니다. 세미나에 참석하면서 가장 먼저 감사했던 것은 유익한 기회를 제공해 주신 목사님과 베이사이드장로교회였습니다. 목사님의 간증과 같은 목회를 하면서 겪었던 수많은 예시들은 그 삶에서 얼마나 치열하게 교회를 세워왔는지 알 수 있었습니다.

처음에 시작하셨을 때 하셨던 그 말, 말씀대로 사는 것을 보여주고 싶었다는 것은 저에게 또 다른 도전을 던져 주었습니다. 사실, 말씀 그 자체를 믿었을 때에 하나님께서 어떠한 삶을 보여 주실 지 알고 있었지만 그것을 더욱더 확증하는 시간이었습니다.

저의 어머님은 신학을 공부하셨고 그 가운데에 자기의 생각이 더해져 말씀과 반대되는 이야기를 하실 때가 있습니다. 하나님의 소리보다 세상의 소리에 귀를 기울일 때 나타나는 수많은 문제도 같이 겪고 있습니다. 가장 가난한 자에게 하는 구제 같은 일들은, 이슈는 제가 한국 집에 있을 때 가장 크게 가장 많은 시간 부딪쳤던 가치였습니다. 가장 큰 핵심 문제는 저는 말씀 그 자체로 살아가야 한다고 주장했을 때 제가 대답할 수 없었던 것은 말씀대로 살아보았더니 안된다였습니다.

저는 단기적인 성과로 보여드린 것들은 있지만 장기적인 성과로 아직 진행 중인 부분에서는 하나님의 때를 기다리고 말씀을 붙잡고 있을 수밖에 없는 상황에 있습니다. 그래서 그 누구보다 보여주고 싶었습니다. 그런데 외로웠던 것 같습니다. 이게 맞는 길이라고 보여주고 싶은데 아직 부모님의 기준에 있어서 이룬게 너무나도 별로 없어 보이기도 했습니다. 그래서 이번 세미나에서 하나님께서 계속 먼저 그 길을 걸어간 사람들을 보여주시는 것 같습니다. 하나님을 통해 가는 길에 대해서 더욱더 확신할 수 있어서 더욱 뜻깊은 시간이 되었습니다.

세미나에 참석한 후 가장 크게 느낀 점은 적용에 대한 부분이었습니다. 실질적인 적용을 어떤 방식으로 하는지 어떻게 하셨는지를 나눠 주시면서 통찰을 얻을 수 있었습니다. 이번 세미나는 단순히 지식을 얻는 것뿐만 아니라, 실질적인 적용 방안을 고민하게 하는 뜻깊은 경험이었습니다. 세미나 이후에 삶에서는 더욱더 확신을 가지고 말씀대로 하는 삶, 말씀과 같이 걸어가는 삶으로 보여줄 수 있는 목회자가 되기를 희망합니다. 저에게 보여주셨던 그리고 이뤄 나가실 하나님 나라에 대한 소망에 대해서 확신하는 세미나가 되었습니다.

UK Pastoral Mentoring Seminar testimony by an assistant pastor (Jundosanim) who serves a church in London:

One of the things that I was most grateful for after deciding to become a pastor was attending seminars. Through pastoral seminars, I was blessed to hear realistic stories about God’s work. I think this pastoral mentoring seminar was a similarly valuable experience. I was most thankful to Pastor Lee and his church who provided this wonderful opportunity. Pastor Lee’s ministry became his testimony. And as he shared his countless experiences, I realized that he must have truly worked hard in his daily life to build the church. What he said in the beginning of the seminar, that he wanted to show what it looks like to live according to God’s Word, challenged me as well. Although I already knew what kind of life God will give me if I believe in His Word, the seminar reaffirmed this truth. My mother studied theology, but there were times when she added her own thoughts and said things that were contrary to the Word. She is also experiencing a lot of problems that occur when we listen to the world more than we listen to God’s voice. Issues such as giving help to those in need were things thatI encountered most often when I lived at home back in Korea. And I would tell people that we must live according to God’s Word. But the biggest problem was that I could not give an apt reply to those who claimed that even though they lived according to God’s Word, nothing happened. I have shown some short-term results of following God’s Word. But there are some things that are still in the progress of being accomplished. And so, I have no choice but to wait for God's time as I hold on to His Word. Thus, I really wanted to prove that we need to live according to God’s Word. But I was lonely. I wanted to show that this is right path, but it seemed like I have not achieved much according to my parents’ standards. I think that’s why through this seminar, God kept introducing me to people who walked the path before me. The seminar was even more meaningful to me because through God, I became more certain about the path I must take. And what stood out to me the most after the seminar was the application aspect. I gained a lot of insight on how to apply the Word as Pastor Lee shared his experiences. Not only did I increase in knowledge, but the seminar propelled me to think deeply about how to apply what I learned in my daily life. After the seminar, I will live according to God’s Word with more confidence. And I hope to be a pastor who can show others how to live by His Word. The seminarreminded me of the hope for God’s Kingdom. I give thanks to Pastor Lee and the congregants of the Korean Presbyterian Church of Bayside for making this seminar possible.
