"목회자 멘토링 세미나에 참석한 독일에서 오신 목사님의 간증"

목회자 멘토링 세미나를 올해 5월 중순 아는 목사님의 소개로 신청하게 되었습니다. 평상시에 훈련과 세미나의 중요성에 대해 생각하고 있었고, 또한 교회에서 제자훈련 2기까지 마치고 동력을 상실하여 잠시 쉬고 있던 터에, 뉴욕에서 제자훈련을 위주로 하는 목회자 멘토링 세미나가 열린다는 소식을 듣고, 또 비용적인 문제도 베이사이드장로교회측의 배려가 있다는 소식에 주저 없이 등록하였습니다.

사실 교회에서 제자훈련을 하면서 교재나, 방법론적인 문제나, 부족 때문이기보다는 무엇보다 누구의 손에 제자훈련교재가 들려지느냐가 중요함을 이 세미나를 통해 확인하게 되었습니다. 제게 있어서는 그것이 눈물과 간증인 것 같고, 그것은 또한 제자훈련에 대한 열정 부족이었던 것 같았습니다. 그래서 제자훈련이 교회의 체질을 바꾼다는 것을 머리로는 알았지만 가슴으로까지는 아직 체감하지 못했던 것이 아닌가 생각을 합니다.

이번 이종식목사님의 강의를 통해, 나에게 부족한 것이 무엇이었는지, 그리고 정체와 동력상실로 인한 제자훈련에 대한 작은 회의감이 사라지게 되었습니다. 또한 목사님의 교회를 사랑하여 십자가를 지고 자신을 부인하는 삶을 볼 때 더욱 마음속에 큰 귀감이 되었습니다. 또한 말씀대로 살고 가르칠 때에 교회의 전세대가 하나되어 세대를 이어가는 아름다운 공동체가 되어서 하나님께 영광을 돌리고 함께 하는 모든 이들에게 기쁨이 되는 것을 볼 때, 독일 이민교회에서 막연히 꿈꾸는 소망의 실현을 이곳 뉴욕에서 보게 되어 다시 한번 희망과 기대를 갖게 되었습니다.

또한 이목사님에게 당신의 기도와 순수함을 통해 하나님께서 부어 주시는 지혜와 재치, 담대함, 열정을 볼 때 그렇지 못한 제 자신을 되돌아보며, 앞으로의 삶 동안 더욱 달려갈 목표와 소망을 갖게 되었습니다. 또한 아낌없이 주시는 이목사님과 베이사이드장로교회를 통해 거저받았으니 거저주어라 하시는 말씀의 은혜를 되새기며, 나 또한 그 삶을 살아가기를 다짐하며 소망합니다.

사역지로 돌아가 새로운 깨달음과 은혜로 게으르지 말고, 모든 일에 열심을 다하기를 다짐합니다. 제자훈련을 더욱 연구하고 준비하여 교회의 체질을 바꾸는 제자 삼는 사역에 촛점을 맞추고 달려가기를 다짐합니다. 더욱 기도함으로 하나님께서 역사하시는 목회 될 수 있도록 힘을 다하겠습니다.

다시 한번 아낌없이 베푸시는 이종식목사님과 부목사님, 장로님, 권사님, 집사님들 베이사이드장로교회에 진심으로 감사드리며, 이 귀한 사역의 기쁨과 열매가 우리 주님 오실 때까지 가득하기를 축복합니다. 감사합니다.

Mentoring Seminar testimony of a pastor from Germany:

I registered for the pastoral mentoring seminar after a pastor I know informed me about it in May. I was aware that I should attend seminars, and I was looking for some kind of respite because our church just completed the 2nd annual discipleship training program. And so, when I heard that the Korean Presbyterian Church of Bayside was doing a seminar and hosting it all for free, I didn't hesitate. One of the most important things I realized about discipleship training through the seminar is that the curriculum or even the method of the program is not as important as who leads the training. And I realized that I may have lacked the passion regarding discipleship training. Although I knew that discipleship training transforms the nature of the church, I don't think I truly understood it in my heart. Through the lectures led by Pastor Lee, I was able to identify my weaknesses. And any skepticism I had regarding discipleship training due to stagnation and loss of momentum dissipated. And it was truly inspiring to see how much Pastor Lee loves the church. He lives each day carrying his cross and denying himself. Because the church teaches according to the Word, I can see that all the generations within the church became unified into a beautiful community that passes down faith through each generation bringing glory to God and joy to all involved. Seeing this filled me with renewed hope and anticipation. And I was greatly inspired when I saw that the dreams I’ve had for my German immigrant church was being realized here in New York. Also, as I witnessed Pastor Lee's wisdom, wit, courage, and passion for God that was evident in his prayers, I reflected on my own shortcomings. And I was motivated to set new goals and hopes for my future. I am now ready to go forward with a renewed determination.

Through the generosity of Pastor Lee and the Korean Presbyterian Church of Bayside, I was reminded of the verse, “Freely you have received; freely give.” And I hope that I can do likewise for others. As I return to my ministry, I will commit myself to not become complacent. Instead, I will diligently apply the new teachings and grace I have received. I will also work on transforming the church by focusing on making disciples through discipleship training. I will strive to pray more fervently and dedicate myself to the ministry with which God has entrusted me. Once again, I sincerely thank Pastor Lee, the associate pastors, elders, deacons, and all the congregation of the Korean Presbyterian Church of Bayside for their generosity. I pray that this church will abound in joy and fruit until the Lord returns.
